Hoegh Duke wasn't launched at the Neptune yard (thats further up river at Walker -on -Tyne), but had sections made at Hebburn yard (south side of river),which were then transported across for assembly at the Swan Hunter Wallsend Yard, at Wallsend. As an add on; Swan Hunter contracted a firm to design (Knaerver?) an automated stackable hatch system for No1 hold working at deck level and one lower level internally, which didn't work and the ship sailed in that condition, manual operation only with stiff penalties for late contract finish. I believe this was why Hoegh Lines never placed orders with Swan Hunter again, though the hatch system failure was not Swan's fault, it hadn't even been tested by the sub contractors on a test bed.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
