Algonova - strike free

The coastal tanker Algonova arrived at Imperial Oil this morning after a lengthy trip.

The ship was at Imperial's refinery in Nanticoke, ON October 21-22, when it became certain that St.Lawrence Seaway workers would go on strike at 0001 hrs October 23. The ship went to anchor since its way through the Welland Canal and Seaway would be blocked until the strike was over.

The strike was resolved and workers resumed their duties October 30 and the ship got underway. Despite a massive backlog of upbound and downbound ships, the Algonova made it through to Montreal by November 1 arriving here today (November 5.)

The Algonova was built in 2008 by Med Marine in Eregli, Turkey, and comes in at 8,009 gt, 11,240 dwt. Owners Algoma Tankers Ltd have several regular callers in Halifax, bringing products from the refineries in Sarnia and Nanticoke. Fleet mate Algoscotia cleared the berth last night (November 4) on a regular distribution run to Sydney, NS. (Not Sydney, Australia if you believe AIS.)
