Canada's naval war memorial Sackville is back at her customary summer berth today for events commemorating the Battle of the Atlantic.
The ship is the last surviving Flower class corvette, and has been the subject of ongoing concerns regarding her condition. Recent studies have shown that she is in fact likely to last a long time if she is kept in salt water. Treatments have now been proposed for maintaining her from the inside and to prevent the intrusion of fresh water through upper works leaks. Her hull, while thin, is still intact and with regular maintenance, is likely to remain so for a long time to come.
Plans to keep her in a dry berth have now been revised, and the latest proposal is a wet berth, but with a roof overhead to keep the weather off.
