Asian Majesty

The Eukor car carrier Asian Majesty arrived this afternoon May 24 and docked at Autoport.

Built in 1999 by Hyundai, Ulsan, the ship was lengthened by Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding by 28.8 meters in 2006, increasing its tonnages from 55,729 gt and 21,483 dwt to 71,383 gt, and 25,818 dwt. Car capacity increased from 6,402 to 7,645 CEU.

With the current demand for car carriers and RoRos, ship owners are running ships that might otherwise be due for retirement. The current world fleet of pure car carriers seems to be somewhere between 750 and 800 ships. New ships are on the way in 2024 so the number of ships is expected to increase by 10% by 2025. Whether this will be enough to cool the market is not clear. In the meantime 25 year old ships like the Asian Majesty are hard at work.

The Asian Majesty sailed from Qingdao March 19 and after calls in Pyeongtack and Ulsan it was next reported in San Juan April 21, Brunswick April 25, Philadephia April 27. It then shifted on to Eukor's parent company Wallenius Wilhelmsen's transatlantic service from Goteborg, Bremerhaven, Zeebrugge, and Southampton May 16-17. After discharging cars at Autoport it will be moving to Pier 9C tomorrow morning to unload RoRo cargo.
