More Lo - Updated

My photos from yesterday showed the ship BBC Challenger and its huge 160 tonne spreader preparing to load at Pier 9C. The light was fading rapidly when I took the last photo, but today, April 7, there was bright sunshine while the loading continued.

By late afternoon only one of the large Innovative Steam Technology (IST) package units remained to load. The smaller units in the consignments can likely be loaded with a single crane, and will not need the spreader.

As reported the units arrived from the factory in Cambridge, ON on heavy capacity flat cars. On completion of loading, and the unseen lashing operations aboard ship, the BBC Challenger will be sailing later tonight..

Update:

Instead of sailing over night, the ship sailed at 0800 hrs Saturday, April 8.  It gave Morehead City SC as its next port of call. That seems an unlikely destination for the  cargo loaded in Halifax, which could have been sent there by rail.

With the large yellow spreader lashed to the starboard rail, the BBC Challenger, sails past a small raft of eider ducks as it makes its way past Pier 9 outbound for sea.
