The small cruise ship Ocean Voyager arrived in Halifax this morning, October 18, from the Great Lakes. The ship, with sister ship Ocean Navigator (see below), spent the summer touring the many ports of the Great Lakes for American Queen Voyages. The ships are heavily fendered for transiting the Seaway locks.
In June American Queen Voyages announced that they would not be offering Great Lakes tours in 2024 and the two ships will be sold. Citing the difficulty in finding off season work for the pair, and the high cost of laying up for the winter, the line will instead concentrate on its inland waterways tours.

The Ocean Navigator is 4954 gt ship, built in 2001 by Atlantic Marine in Jacksonville, FL. It has a passenger capacity of 220 with a crew of 77. It started life as the Cape May Light and became successively: 2009: Sea Voyager, 2015: Saint Laurent, 2016: Victory I and acquired its current name last year.
In its original form as Cape May Light the ship featured two "funnels" - one of which was a dummy, and was later removed. The remaining funnel was shortened and is now barely visible behind the lifeboats. On the other hand the bow mounted steering pole has been heightened. Sister ship Ocean Navigator arrived in Portland, ME this morning (October 18) and had an explosion and small fire in a generator. One person was injured and the 128 passengers and 82 crew were evacuated ashore. The ship had been in Halifax October 16, also returning from the Great Lakes, and sailed for Portland the same evening.
