Power for Nova Scotia

The Nova Scotia Power Corporation generates electrical power at several generating stations and imports (or exports) electric power by transmission lines to New Brunswick and to Newfoundland. Some of the generating plants still burn coal.

There is one generating station in Halifax. The Tuft's Cove facility on the Dartmouth side of the Narrows of Halifax harbour usually uses natural gas, imported via pipeline from the United States through New Brunswick. It can also burn oil.

Recent very low temperatures in the United States and Canada, have increased demand on the electrical infrastructure. There was the very rare event of demand exceeding supply in Quebec, which usually has ample hydro electricity and is able to export power. It was recently forced to import power from the North American grid. Customers were also asked to reduce consumption in Quebec and Nova Scotia where there were instances of brown outs.

It was also noted that there were at least two gas imports by tanker to Saint John. NB, and a tanker arrived  in Halifax from Baton Rouge, LA on January 23 with oil for the Tuft's Cove generating station.

The oddly named FEW BPS is a 29,663 gt, 51,601 dwt ship built in 2009 by Hyundai Mipo Dockyard. It carried the name Kinaros until 2025.
