The auto carrier Taipan called at Autoport today, on the usual Wallenius Wilhelmsen Ocean route from Goteborg, Bremerhaven, Zeebrugge and Southampton. It sailed early this evening for New York.
Stocznia Gdynia built the ship in 2006 as Morning Countess for Ray Car Carriers and a Eukor charter, but its name was changed on delivery to Taipan for charter to Wilhelmsen. It is a 57,692 gt, 21,021 dwt ship with a capacity of 6700 CEU. (Wilhelmsen also manages the Eukor ships).
As a Wilhlemsen ship it was painted in their colours, as it was seen here in 2019.
When Wilhelmsen and Wallenius officially merged their auto carrier fleets in 2017 they gradually had all the ships repainted in a new teal/grey scheme, but each company retained its typical names - Wallenius with operatic characters and Wilhelmsen names begining with the letter "T".
