Two at Fairview Cove

The PSA Fairview Cove container terminal was working at capacity today with two ships under the cranes. Both ships have called in Halifax many times, but there is a bit of a change for one of them.

At the west berth (closest to the camera) it was NYK Remus 55,487 gt, 65,981 dwt, with a capacity of 4922 TEU including 330 reefers, built by Hyundai Samho in 2009. It arrived from Saint John, NB on the east bound leg of a voyage on the THE Alliance's AL5 service. The ship is operating for NYK Line on charter from a Panamanian owner named Moet Shipholding SA. NYK Line's container operations have been folded in to Ocean Newtwork Express (ONE), but chartered ships have not been renamed with ONE names nor repainted with the line's magenta hull colour.

At the east berth, farthest from the camera and looming through the fog is the Glen Canyon. A slightly larger ship of 68,570 gt, 71,291 dwt with a capacity of 5624 TEU including 600 reefers, it was built for service with K-Line by Hyundai, Ulsan in 2006 as Glen Canyon Bridge. When its initial charter ended in 2021 the ship was renamed Glen Canyon under Costamare management. It is now on ZIM's ZCA service. An off and on caller in Halifax since 2010, only its funnel has been repainted from its original K-Line colour scheme.
