New Cruiser

A new cruise ship made its first Halifax call today after a northern expedition cruise.

The 10,617 gt SH Vega was completed by the Hietalahti Shipyard in Helsinki in July for Swan Hellenic Cruises. Catering to only 152 passengers (in 76 cabins) but with a crew of 120, it is a Polar 5 class ship, and will operate cruises in Antarctic and Arctic waters.

On this trip, starting in Norway, it has called in Reykjavik, Sisimut, Greenland (twice) and Pond Inlet (Mittimatalik) NU. While at Pier 24 today it look on large quantities of stores (presumably including some fresh stuff) and fuel. It is sailing this evening for Boston to re-position for the Antarctic cruise season (November to March) working out of Ushuaia.
