CFIA clearance

The phrase "honour among theives" is well known, but honour (Canadian spelling) among barbarians is a new one on me. The name Barbarian Honor (US spelling) thus seems an odd one, but then again ships' names are endlessly variable. The name appeared today, August 16 in Halifax on another large gearless bulk carrier.

The oddly named ship is the most recent arrival for Canadian Food Inspection Agency clearance before proceeding to its loading port. [see the August 9 post for the bulker Mineral Minerva, the August 11 post for the tanker Solar Sally. Another bulker is due tonight.].

The ship was built in 2011 by Qingdao Beihei as Power China and carried the name Tiger Shandong from 2015 to 2021. Its tonnages are listed at 94,710 gt and 180,091 dwt.

Evidence of hasty renamings is still evident on the ship's bow, as fresh paint had no time to dry before the ship put to sea and met some waves, washing off blue paint to reveal the previous name. Oddly the white paint proved more durable and has survived.

After only a few hours in port, the ship was cleared to sail and headed for the iron ore loading port of Port-Cartier, QC. The ship's previous ports have been Itaqui June 17-26 and Punta Madeira, Brazil June 26-29; Constanza, Romania July 21-28; Icdas, Turkey July 29-30 and Algeciras, Spain, August 4-5.
