The ARC Gloria, the Colombia navy's sail training barque, moved from anchorage to the Tall Ships Quay on the Halifax waterfront this morning August 15.
Dressed alll over and with the crew in the yards, Gloria made its way south about George's Island and glided in toward the pier.
The tugs Atlantic Oak and Atlantic Fir stood off until the last possible moment so as not to mar the vessel's pristine white hull (I was surprised that they did not rig sheets over their tire / fenders.)
Very little of what happens in Halifax harbour could be considered "thrilling" these days, but the sound of a hundred or more voices raised in full throated song from the rigging is about as close as it gets. Led by an operatic baritone, the crew's vocal capabilities may not have been as well honed, but they made up for it in enthusiasm. (The ship's permanent crew numbers 85, supplemented by up to 75 trainees).
While alongside the Gloria willl be open to the public.
