MSC Paris - Indus 2

The Mediterranean Shipping Company's INDUS 2 service brought in its fifth "new to Halifax" ship today, November 9. MSC Paris a Hyundai 8000 class ship, built by Hyundai Ulsan in 2006.

The 89,941 gt, 102,761 dwt ship has a capacity of 8204 TEU including 700 reefers. It was built as MSC Paris but was apparently chartered out as Hammonia Hamburg from 2006 to 2011, then as CSAV Paris from 2001 to 2012. It then reverted to MSC Paris again.

See my post on the inaugural visit of this service: MSC Indus 2

The Indus 2 service from Northwest India to the US East Coast started in August 2021, and Halifax was added to the eight other ports in September. MSC has three discrete services from the Middle East and Indian subcontinent to East Coast North America, but the Indus 2 is the only one with a Canadian port of call.

The Indus 2 service is weekly and was to operate with eight ships of the 8500 TEU class, but so far I am aware of nine different ships that have called or are scheduled to call. The first ship to call had a 6724 TEU rating, but subsequent ships have been either 9178 TEU or 8204 TEU, so the smallest ship seems to have been replaced.
