USCG Morro Bay - I'll have mine straight with no ice
The US Coast Guard icebreaker Morro Bay arrived on the hottest day of the year so far. So no ice to break here, but the ship is on one of its annual summer cruises, which often extend as far as the Great Lakes.
The 140 foot Bay class vessel is based in New London, CT and is also used for law enforcement and environmental duties.
A single screw ship, it has an ice bubbler system that weaken ice from below and is thus able to travel through 18" to 20" ice.
